WordPress 101 – Part 3 of 6

WordPress 101 – Part 3 of 6

During this FREE Meetup we’ll continue working on our WordPress sites that we started building in the last session. Just like the last Meetup, we’ll be very hands-on, working through the steps of adding more pages, images, and posts to your new WordPress website.

Please note: If you couldn’t make it to the last session of WordPress 101 class, don’t worry – we’ll get you caught up and on track in no time!

WHAT TO BRING:
Laptops are encouraged since you’ll be working on your own website. If you don’t have a laptop, you can team up with someone in the class or follow along with the demonstration. You’ll probably want to take notes, so bring a notebook and pen/pencil.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE CLASS:
* Keep working on your website—write the content for your pages and blog posts.
* As you’re working on your website, write down any questions you have so you remember to ask them at the next Meetup.

PLEASE RSVP so we know how many refreshments to provide.

Now that we’ve covered what WordPress is and some of the components of this powerful website building platform, it’s time to roll our sleeves up and get hands-on.

During this Meetup you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of setting up your own WordPress website.

We will all be using “Local by FlyWheel” – a free software program that allows you to build a WordPress website right on your own computer, without the need for a web hosting account. (Don’t worry, when you’re ready to launch your website, it’s as easy as clicking a button to sign up for an affordable FlyWheel hosting plan.)

We will walk you through:
* Downloading the “Local by FlyWheel” free software program
* Choosing a free WordPress theme
* Building your first few pages
* Setting up your navigation menu
* Starting your first blog post
* Adding some images to pages and posts

Please note: If you couldn’t make it to the first WordPress 101 class, don’t worry – we’ll get you up to speed in no time!

WP Fremont: A New WordPress Meetup Group

WP Fremont: A New WordPress Meetup Group

There’s a new Meetup group in town: WP Fremont.

The ‘WP’ stands for WordPress—an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. In non-geek speak, it’s probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (CMS) in existence today.

Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis. WordPress Meetups are for the benefit of the WordPress community as a whole. Membership in the local WordPress Fremont Meetup group is open to anyone who wishes to join, regardless of ability, skills, financial status, or any other criteria. WordPress Meetups, including WP Fremont, are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers, and are free to attend.

While there is a WordPress Meetup group in Omaha, the local Fremont group was started to make WordPress Meetups easier to get to and more accessible to residents of communities further away from Omaha. Visit WP Fremont’s Meetup page to learn more about the local group and upcoming meetups. You can also keep an eye on The Fremont Compass Community Calendar for upcoming WordPress Fremont Meetups.
